East Coast Adventure: New Jersey

3 Highlights from Our Jersey Adventure:

We took a day trip to the private (yes, as in the opposite of a public ) park in Kennett Square, PA to revel in some Christmas horticulture. The park is more than 1070 acres of majestically landscaped terrain with multiple greenhouses, a museum, and a gourmet cafeteria. It was here where Jennifer was first introduced to the illusive Jersey Devil. Soon after their introduction the snowflakes began to fall from the sky and we knew it was time for us to head home, but not without snapping some fun photos :)

Princeton University

This day trip took us to one of the oldest universities in America which is also the stomping grounds of the famous mathematician and economist, Dr. John Forbes Nash. Here we strolled among the old stone buildings and pondered about what academic life must be like. After we had our fill of the campus itself we took to the town for some… yup, you guessed it… shopping.

We had a Rock-A-Billy good time on New Years Eve at this bar in Dunellen, NJ. We were treated to an excellent buffet with an open bar, a magic show, multiple musical performances and some priceless people watching. We... Will... Be... Back!

East Coast Adventure: New York City

Sex and the City: {Keep Calm and Carrie On}

"Keep calm and Carrie on". Great advice for our third trip together to New York! During this trip, we spent the majority of the time (about 5 hours) at the American Museum of Natural History. After our fill of comets, dinosaurs, gems, and bones we took it to the streets for some NY city eats and creeps… well, not creeps, more like creepy things. We made the trek to the East Village to visit our friends from the Discovery Channel's Oddities show at Obscura Antiques & Oddities. There, among the medieval torture devices and pickled pigs, we were able to find a hand made glass eyeball that was perfect for our Christmas tree.

America Eats Tavern where we ate some classic American food with its own history

Deep-fried foods, first introduced by Spanish and Portugese slave-traders, are the living history that links the South and the Mediterranean. During the civil war, women sold fried chicken from trays balanced on their heads to soldiers along the C&O railroad in Gordonsville.

The Martins worked as streetcar conductors before they opened their restaurant in the French Market. So when the transit workers went on strike, they supported the ‘‘poor boys’’ by giving them free sandwiches through the end of their popular but violent struggle. Seafood was abundant and cheap at the time. It was also easier to eat than the traditional leftover roasts.
